Centre for Synthetic Biology
The workshop aims to highlight recent developments and challenges in the field of synthetic biology, with a particular focus on the sense-compute-response paradigm. With this, we provide an interdisciplinary platform for discussion, exchange of views, and the development of future collaborations in our field.
The workshop is an event of the Centre for Synthetic Biology in cooperation with the Joint Division of Synthetic Biology. The Joint Division combines the activities of DECHEMA's Systems Biology and Synthetic Biology Division, GBM's Synthetic Biology Study Group, GDCh e.V. and the German Botanical Society DBG.

TU Darmstadt
The Technical University of Darmstadt is a synonym for excellent, relevant science. Global transformations – from the energy transition via Industry 4.0 to artificial intelligence – are posing enormous challenges. The University plays a crucial role in helping to shape these far-reaching processes of change with outstanding insights and forward-looking study opportunities.
Since the University was founded in 1877, they have been one of Germany’s most international universities; as a European technical university, they are committed to European values and European integration. Their home is the metropolitan region Frankfurt-Rhine-Main. With their partners in the Alliance of Rhine-Main Universities, they continue the development of this globally attractive science location.
The workshop will take place in the clock tower building of the TU Darmstadt. The heart of the clock tower building recalls its historical roots: the lecture hall, in which the world's first professor of electrical engineering, Erasmus Kittler, held his lectures, offers the special spatial atmosphere as it did in 1904, with its elements saved and restored in the original.

By air via Frankfurt International Airport (FRA)
Darmstadt is situated approximately 28 km from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA), the largest airport in Germany. A direct bus service (AirLiner) connects the airport with the city of Darmstadt every 30 minutes at peak times, otherwise every 60 minutes (download the detailed schedule (opens in new tab)). The trip duration is appoximately 35 minutes. The one way fare is approximately 9 €. Unfortunately only cash is accepted on the bus but tickets can be also bought at the RMV ticket vending machines in the airport using credit or debit cards.
If you arrive at Terminal 1, board the AirLiner bus from bus stop 14, outside the terminal, across the road. At Terminal 2, the bus stops just outside the terminal entrance. Get off the bus at the terminal station (Darmstadt Kongresszentrum/Convention Center). From there, the Welcome hotel is only 100m away.
A taxi from Frankfurt airport to Welcome Hotel Darmstadt costs approximately 65 € and takes around 30 minutes.
By train via Darmstadt HBf
Darmstadt is a sizable railway hub, with many trains stopping at Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof (main station). Public transport (buses and light rail) from Darmstadt HBf to Hotel Welcome is available but involves approximately 5-10 minutes of walking.
