European Symposium on Electric Machine Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation (EMMSO 2026)

European Symposium on Electric Machine Modelling, Simulation and Optimisation (EMMSO 2026)

Seeheim, near Darmstadt (Germany), 28–30 January 2026

Electric machines are at the heart of today’s technological transformation, ranging from sustainable energy systems to future mobility concepts. Current research addresses novel machine topologies, high-speed operation, and increasing power density, all of which pose new challenges in cooling technologies and cost efficiency. At the same time, advances in materials, manufacturing processes, power electronics, and numerical simulation methods act as key enablers. These developments are essential to ensure efficient, reliable, and affordable electric drive systems, particularly in the field of mobility.

In Europe, several major research initiatives are driving progress in this field. The German-Austrian Collaborative Research Centre CREATOR develops innovative simulation and design strategies for electric machines, with a particular focus on multiphysics modelling and isogeometric analysis. The Horizon Europe project MAXIMA aims to realise a low-cost, modular axial flux electric machine that combines improved performance with low environmental impact, specifically addressing the needs of the automotive sector. The Finnish network HiECSs, coordinated by Aalto University, establishes the theoretical foundations and computational tools required to renew the understanding of high-speed electromechanical drivetrains also with a multiphysics perspective.

This conference brings together these initiatives, providing a unique platform to strengthen collaboration across projects, foster the exchange of ideas, and disseminate the latest results to both the scientific community and industry stakeholders.

Conference programme

The book of abstracts is available for download.

Location

Lufthansa Seeheim is a large conference venue in the south of Darmstadt situated at the hillside of the Odenwald. It offers a direct (coach) shuttle service from and to Frankfurt airport.

Some information about the shuttle service between FRA airport and Lufthansa Seeheim is provided at the following web page https://www.lh-seeheim.de/en/location-and-directions/.

There is no fare as the shuttle service is included in the business package at the conference hotel. Lufthansa Seeheim organises this service directly, so no public transport is involved. If you have found concrete shuttles you would like to take (travel time should be about 35min), you can book them directly using a link on the page given above (http://seeheim-shuttle.de/).

Fees

  • The conference fee amounts to 700 Euro (early bird) or 800 Euro (after 15 December) and covers all expenses for the symposium, including accommodation in the conference hotel from 28–30 January (2 nights) as well as all refreshments and meals.
  • Additionally, a limited number of single rooms for the night 27–28 January may be booked for 120 Euro per room. Just choose the corresponding option when registering. We regret, that this option is currently completely booked up. So only the option for two nights is still available.
