1. Introduction
The CRC CREATOR is a transregional research initiative funded by both the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). In collaboration between Technische Universität Darmstadt, Graz University of Technology, and Johannes Kepler University Linz, CREATOR aims to establish the foundations for designing the next generation of electro-thermal machines. This Code of Conduct defines fundamental principles for collaboration within CREATOR and aligns with the codes of conduct set forth by the DFG and FWF, which remain separately applicable.
2. Core Values and Expected Behaviors
Our values are not just statements—they guide our everyday actions and foster a culture of integrity, high-quality research, and responsible collaboration.
A. Research Integrity & Scientific Practice
We adhere to the highest standards of scientific integrity, following the DFG’s and FWF’s guidelines for good research practice.
We ensure transparency in research, including proper citation, data documentation, and adherence to FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). We acknowledge the contributions of all collaborators fairly and responsibly.
B. Respect & Collegiality
We create an environment of mutual respect, where all members feel safe to express their ideas without fear of discrimination or exclusion.
We listen actively in discussions and avoid interrupting or dismissing contributions from others.
We provide constructive and respectful feedback, addressing issues directly rather than engaging in side conversations.
C. Diversity & Inclusion
We actively foster an inclusive work culture that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and career paths.
We support measures that enhance gender equality and equal opportunities, recognizing different career and life situations.
We ensure that work-life balance is respected, avoiding mandatory meetings outside of regular working hours whenever possible.
D. Accountability & Responsibility
We take ownership of our actions, including acknowledging mistakes and learning from them.
We honor our commitments and communicate openly when challenges arise.
We encourage a culture of seeking help and offering support, recognizing that collaboration strengthens our research.
E. Zero Tolerance for Discrimination & Harassment
We uphold a strict zero-tolerance policy toward harassment, discrimination, bullying, or any form of inappropriate behavior.
Any member experiencing or witnessing misconduct is encouraged to report it through designated, confidential channels.
3. Implementation & Reporting
This Code of Conduct is a living document that will be regularly reviewed and refined through collaborative workshops with CREATOR members. All participants are expected to uphold these principles and hold each other accountable in a constructive manner. Violations of this Code will be addressed according to the procedures established by the respective host institutions, in compliance with DFG and FWF regulations.
