My field of research is fascinating. To laymen I would explain it in the following comprehensible manner:

With the development of science and technology and modern industry, rotating machinery is taking more and more important part in many fields such as power system, transportation, national defense and industry etc, thus the study of the dynamics of rotating machinery is fascinating and very important. A complicated machine system may vibrate violently due to nonlinearity that inherently exists in the system with faults, which can lead to the catastrophic failure in the worst case. Moreover, almost dynamic problems of large rotating machinery takes on the character of nonlinearity and non-stationary, thus it is significant in studying the nonlinear dynamics behavior of complex rotor system with fault.

My most important success in research to date is…

the development of nonlinear and non-stationary processing methods in the fields of structural health monitoring.

I’ve chosen the TU Darmstadt because of…

its a very good university and very strong in the engineering research. Research group of structural dynamics led by Prof. Dr. Markert and Prof. Dr. Schweizer make great progress in the fields of rotor dynamics, structure calculation and system identification.
