Beyond iron as metal fuel – Experiments and simulation of aluminium and magnesium combustion

Mini-symposium, Research Area 2

2023/07/14

In the Mini-symposium of Research Area 2 on 11 July 2023, alternative metal fuels beyond iron were discussed with guests and researchers from Clean Circles.

Prof. Fabien Halter from the University of Orlèans presented experimental insights on magnesium and aluminum combustion and reduction. These metals are promising candidates for cyclic energy storage and production. Afterwards, Dr. Fabian Sewerin from the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg showed mathematical and numerical modelling approaches of aluminum particle combustion in the laminar and turbulent regime. A wide range of experiences were shared in the final discussion session and in the subsequent lab tour for both guest speakers.

The symposium was held in hybrid form. For more information, please download the programme as PDF (opens in new tab) .
