Experimental investigation of oxidation and reduction of iron powder in a fluid- ized bed reactor

2023/11/22

At the Institute for Energy Systems and Technology, two Master theses in the context of Clean Circles and iron as a renewable energy carrier are advertised.

The focus here is both on the highly exothermic oxidation reaction to store the energy and on the reduction using green hydrogen in fluidized beds to store the energy.

For large-scale application, precise knowledge of the process parameters such as temperature and gas velocities is necessary to enable safe process control and high conversion rates without jeopardizing the process and achieving high efficiency. The limits of the parameters within which the process can operate are currently unknown and must be determined experimentally. This is to be carried out as part of two Master's theses at the Department of Energy Systems and Technology.
