New publication in the journal Sustainability

2024/01/18

A new publication from Clean Circles researchers together with colleagues from TU Darmstadt and KIT, delves into the transformative effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the German discourse surrounding hydrogen.

The change of topic proportions over time: The vertical lines denote three pivotal dates: 15 October 2019: the announcement (15 October 2019) and launch (7 June 2020) of the German National Hydrogen Strategy and the start of the Russian war against Ukraine on 24 February 2022. (Sustainability 2024, 16(2), 773)

By analysing a vast dataset of newspaper articles the authors find how the onset of the war in February 2024 triggered a significant pivot in the discourse, shifting it from sustainability and climate-change mitigation to the securing of energy supplies through new partnerships.

The article is published in the journal Sustainability as part of a special issue entitled “Governing Green Energy Trade: Challenges and Opportunities”.
