Mental strength an emotional balance in the PhD journey – managing energy for clarity, flow and well-being
Doing a PhD in the interdisciplinary field of Energy and Environment means working on highly relevant, complex challenges. But it also often means being under constant pressure – mentally, emotionally, and physically. Many PhD candidates report feeling overwhelmed, short on time, and stuck in a cycle of overachievement, exhaustion, and disconnection from their initial motivation.

Diana Seyfarth invites you in this session to pause, breathe, and gain new perspectives on the invisible, yet powerful energy systems within yourself. Just like energy systems in your research field, your inner system needs regulation, clarity, and resilience to work sustainably. How can we stay mentally strong and emotionally balanced in the face of high demands? How do our inner states affect our ability to think clearly, make decisions, collaborate, and enjoy our work?
In this interactive session, we will explore:
- Why stress and overload are so common in the PhD phase – and what’s really behind them
- How your inner energy system works (attention, thoughts, emotions) and how to influence it
- Practical tools and micro-rituals that help you step out of the stress spiral and into a more empowered, focused and calm state – in just a few minutes a day
This is not just a talk – it’s an experience. You’ll walk away with simple, science-informed, immediately applicable practices to recharge your energy, clear your mind, and approach your PhD with more clarity, ease, and joy.
