Data doesn’t discover anything – you do. Experiments and observations provide us with raw data. However, real scientific breakthroughs come from how we analyse that data. Whether you use AI models or classic significance tests, statistics sit at the heart of discovery – and at the root of many errors.

Further information

Are you making the same mistakes as everyone else? In this “Meet your Peers!” session, we’ll break down key concepts such as hypothesis testing and uncertainty propagation. We’ll examine common pitfalls that researchers encounter – and how to avoid them. You’ll see how poorly planning ‘Design of Experiments’ can lead to scientific misconduct, and why some uncertainties keep slipping through unnoticed. We’ll also provide you a practical introduction to Bayesian inference – a powerful tool for understanding and managing uncertainty in your research.

Lecturer: Dr. Johannes Emmert (Operatorbasiertes Lernen, Fraunhofer Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen)
