AI for better writing? (August 28th, 2024)

Dissertations and other extensive and complex writing projects require comprehensive and agile management. The way we conduct research influences our writing, and many things cannot be planned with certainty. It is important to select, read, and evaluate literature carefully. The text needs to be drafted, then revised and polished. Sources must be added and corrections made. Working on the dissertation is important, but rarely urgent: Frequently, other work and personal tasks can interfere with the ability to work on major writing projects continuously and with minimal stress.

Can AI-based writing tools assist with these tasks and requirements? How can they make the writing process easier? Where might they create more work or necessitate increased attention, such as for data protection reasons?

Learning objectives:

The workshop concentrates on the individual writing process and the potential applications of AI-based writing tools. This text discusses how to break down writing into manageable parts and increase efficiency. It covers the basics of writing processes, skills, and common problems, as well as personal writing styles. The text also explores various reading, writing, and management tools, including those based on AI. It encourages reflection on the benefits and limitations of AI-based tools in the writing process.

Methods:

  • Input by the trainer
  • Group work
  • Individual work on your own texts and trying out tools
