What is the 5-year deadline?
All candidates who have not completed their doctorate within 5 years from admission must apply for an extension, explaining why the five years was not long enough. They must also submit a 2-year plan outlining how they will complete their doctorate within this period (or sooner).
There is no prescribed format for these documents.
We recommend mentioning parental leave or one of the other explicit
reasons that justify an extension, as outlined in Sect. 10 Para. 5.
The 5-year deadline was introduced in 2010 and has been applied to all doctorates in progress since 2015.
