Publish or Perish – but how? (December 12th, 2024)

By publishing the results of your research, you accomplish several critical objectives: You claim a new discovery and communicate it with others in your field.

Prior to this dissemination, quality assurance is typically achieved by a diligent peer review process. Once published, your work contributes to building your reputation in academia and demonstrates progress to funding agencies.

The workshop helps you navigate this important part of your academic career and avoid pitfalls.

It is an introduction to today’s publishing landscape with a focus on open access and will address the following questions:

  • What are the stages of the publication process?
  • What rights do I have as an author?
  • What are typical license agreements with publishers?
  • How do I choose a Creative Commons license?
  • What are so called “Predatory Publishers”?
  • How can I cover publication costs at TUDa?
  • How do I publish my doctoral thesis on TUprints?
  • Which support services does the ULB offer to implement the TUDa Open Access Policy?
