City of Darmstadt

Darmstadt is located in central Germany in the Rhine-Main area, about 30 km south of Frankfurt and in close proximity to Mannheim, Heidelberg, Wiesbaden and Mainz. It was awarded the title “science city” in 1997 and with currently approximately 160,000 residents it is the fourth largest city in Hesse. Darmstadt offers a high quality of life, as well as many cultural attractions and is excellently linked to all destinations due to its close proximity to the Frankfurt international airport.

The University

Technical University of Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt) is characterized by its special pioneering spirit leading to outstanding innovation and research. It is an internationally focused university with scientists and renowned collaboration partners from all over the world. Although its strong technical focus, engineering and natural sciences collaborate very close with humanities and social sciences.

TU Darmstadt has 27,000 students, 3,700 of whom are international students from all over the world. As a student in the city of Darmstadt you are encouraged to participate in exchanges, or multicultural activities. Moreover, there are many pubs, sport activities, galleries, museums or parks to enjoy your student life next to your studies.
