Mastering the Unexpected in Talks and Discussions (April 17th & 18th, 2019)

Mastering the Unexpected in Talks and Discussions (April 17th & 18th, 2019)

9 am – 5 pm

This workshop uses improvisation and free-speaking exercises as concrete tools to prepare speakers for unexpected situations during presentations and discussions. Practical techniques help participants to step out of their comfort zone and to develop their authority, focus anxiety, prepare for blackouts and become more self-reliant. The training is tailored to individual participant questions and uses role-play to investigate proposed scenarios and to train coping strategies, which can be used in real-world situations.

The seminar begins with verbal and non-verbal communication training, connecting breathing to thinking, to relieve panic in stressful situations. Participants are given free-speaking exercises in order to train quick thinking, staying focused, engaging an audience in a topic and in line with the speakers’ goals. Speakers prepare and present a 3-minute talk, with feedback and coaching on clarity, intent and focus. Strategies are discussed and practiced in order to deal with disruptions during the talks.

The second day is focused on the audience discussion and how to behave when asked questions in awkward situations. Improvisation exercises are trained to help the presenter maintain focus and composure. Role-play situations are tailored, practiced and discussed in the roles as both presenter and moderator.
