M+M Symposium

2023/12/13

The first M+M Symposium took place on 2. November 2023 in the Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg-Haus of the TU Darmstadt. The programme included the presentation of the four profile topics and open discussion sessions.

The M+M Symposium is an open format for valuable exchange and free discussions on the broad spectrum of the Research Field Matter and Materials and the four profile topics, Materials for Circularity, Networks for Industry 4.0, Nuclear Science and Synthetic Biology.

It is an excellent opportunity for the members to meet, network and discuss burning matters for the research field, which in turn strengthens its core values and identity.

In her opening speech, the president of the TU Darmstadt, Prof. Brühl, has summarized best the goals of the Research Field M+M, as one of the main pillars of the research strategy. She emphasized the identification of a common framework and the coherence of the research field, despite the diversity of the profile topics. This further contributes to help building a more sustainable future, exploring all its intricate facets, from particles to cells and materials.

Members of the research field and of the four profile topics participated and presented current experimental and theoretical research, as well as the technological developments and challenges of their current projects. The constructive dialogue and critical communication during the M+M Symposium further stimulated the development of ideas for new collaborative projects among the members. The active discussions concentrated around several general topics, such as Application-oriented research; New technologies; Theoretical modeling, etc. mirroring thus the diversity of the research field and ensuring the cross-disciplinarity of the planned future activities.

The research field is very much looking forward to welcoming its members at the next M+M event in 2024.
