Research Field Matter and Materials

The Research Field Matter and Materials at TU Darmstadt carries out fundamental research on particles, materials or cells and designs groundbreaking technologies and building blocks for our future through interdisciplinary and collaborative research and development.

Over decades, society and science have further developed, optimized and individualized existing ideas, concepts and technologies. We are now experiencing a paradigm change. We will not be able to positively shape our future solely with existing technologies and our current knowledge.

We need to explore new ideas and technologies, develop new building blocks for our future and facilitate their implementation. Because only with these new building blocks will we build a good future.

President

M+M exemplifies the spirit of the TU Darmstadt. Scientists rethink technologies and develop innovations for tomorrow - from insight into cells to fundamental questions of our universe. Creative and valuable building blocks for the future emerge from cross-disciplinary, interconnected thinking.

M+M Profile Topics

We are driven to understand particles, matter, and cells and to develop technologies and building blocks for our future – a broad field to explore. That is why we combine our resources and strengths in four profile topics. We are convinced that this is where we have the greatest impact in the context of current challenges and where we can make the best contribution to the future of all of us.
