Unite! Research School 2025

Inspiring the Next Generation of European Engineers

2025/11/04

From 3 to 7 November 2025, 200 Master’s and PhD students, researchers, and industry leaders from across Europe gather in Autrans, France for the second edition of the Unite! Research School dedicated to AI and cybersecurity, Space & Tech, and Engineering Biology.

“What's original and innovative about URS is that it brings together different types of audience for shared activities » explains Frank Bruckert, the Unite! Key Liaison Officer for Grenoble. “These various activities are a way of introducing participants to the richness of the Unite! network ecosystem in a very concrete way.”

A dense and stimulating programme

The Unite! Research School offers a unique mix of scientific excellence, combining expert lectures, transferable skills courses, networking sessions, a forum with industry leaders, research facility and industrial visits, and a team case study. It is also a motivational track designed to inspire Master’s students to engage in PhD research.

“So many opportunities to share expertise, learn new competences, build collaborations, and bring innovation to life.” says Frank Bruckert. « Our hope is that all the exchanges will lead to closer links and the setting up of ambitious European projects.»

Indeed, the program features around 50 professors and specialists delivering high-level scientific courses, coordinated by:

  • Space & Tech: Erik Kerstel (UGA) and Eugenio Brusa (Politecnico di Torino)
  • Engineering Biology: Stefan Göbel (TU Darmstadt) and Charlotte Hauser (Graz University of Technology)
  • AI & Cybersecurity: Miguel Couceiro (Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa) and Fulvio Valenza (Politecnico di Torino)

In addition to this, students also develop transferable skills through modules led by Essi Vitaneen (Aalto University).

Strong involvement from industry partners

Already active during the first edition, companies are playing a central role in URS 2025. “All the Unite! partner universities have a strong link with technology » underlines Franz Bruckert. “So it was obvious to us that industrialists had to be involved in Unite! Research School”.

Leading companies including Air Liquide, Orange, and Teledyne E2V engage with students through keynotes, panel discussions, and company visits, providing a first-hand insight into real-world engineering challenges.

Looking ahead

With its mix of science, collaboration, and innovation, the Unite! Research School 2025 embodies the spirit of European engineering: open, interdisciplinary, and forward-looking.

Over five days in the French Alps, participants help shape the future of technology and sustainable innovation across Europe.
