From research to application

Innovation starts now – this was the motto under which the ryon GreenTech Accelerator Transition Centre in Gernsheim was opened last week. The Centre was on board with the presentation of a selection of topics and is also featured in the Hessenschau report on the opening.

In the Transition Center, a state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure for innovation and research projects has been created on 300 square metres of building space. This will strengthen an efficient and sustainable ecosystem in the Rhine-Main region that brings start-ups and scale-ups together with partners from industry in a fruitful exchange of learning from and with each other.

Less than two years ago, Merck signed a letter of intent with the state of Hesse to establish an accelerator. Just six months later, the GreenTech Accelerator ryon was officially launched. Last week, the third milestone was celebrated: the opening of the Transition Centre at FLUXUM Gernsheim – ryon's first laboratory infrastructure.

The new laboratory building is designed to help start-ups develop their ideas in a well-equipped laboratory environment so that they can soon be transferred to production on a scalable scale. And the companies are not alone, as ryon offers a large network of like-minded people and experts who share their passion.

Kai Beckmann, member of the Merck Executive Board and CEO of Merck Electronics, emphasised the importance of places like the Transition Center in his welcoming address: “At the heart of this concept is a simple but powerful belief: that innovation is the key to tackling environmental challenges,” and continued, “The GreenTech Accelerator is a place where ideas are celebrated, challenges are taken on and problems are solved.”

Hesse's new Minister of Economics and Deputy Prime Minister Kaweh Mansoori also came to Gernsheim to visit our GreenTech Park for the first time. Together with Tanja Brühl, President of the Technical University of Darmstadt, ryon Managing Directors Prof Dr Jörg von Hagen and Steffen Bruckner and Kai Beckmann, Kaweh Mansoori opened the new building in front of more than 100 guests.
