Best Student Paper Award for Pawan Dhakal and Kourosh Heidari Kani

2023/11/20

The Paper: P.K. Dhakal, K. Heidarikani, and A. Muetze, ‘Down-scaling of drive cycles for experimental drive cycle analyses’, in 12th International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2023), Brussels, Belgium, Oct. 2023.

The use of standard drive cycles to assess vehicle performance is widespread. It is often necessary to use 3D FEA or more complex models for the performance analysis, which comes at huge computational effort and cost. Usually performance maps or efficiency maps as look-up tables are used to compute the performance at the individual drive cycle operating point. However, the accuracy of this approach when applied to dynamic drive scenarios is yet to be explored. If we want to quantify this by laboratory testing of small electric motors where expensive high-performance test benches are not an option, how do we do it?

Well, we recently presented our paper on the Down-Scaling of drive cycles for laboratory testing of smaller motors at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives PEMD 2023 in Brussels.

We are also happy to share that we received the Best Student Paper Award, which is really appreciative and motivating for our future projects. It is an ongoing effort at Electric Drives and Machines Institute (EAM) – and CREATOR to tackle the future challenges of electric motors for better e-mobility solutions.
