At TU Darmstadt, you can register for a degree programme as a student or complete a vocational training programme as a vocational trainee instead. With over 100 vocational training places in around twenty different professions, Technical University of Darmstadt is one of the largest training centres in southern Hesse. In addition to the traditional tasks in academic research and teaching, the university offers you the opportunity to pursue vocational training in various sectors. The programme ranges from IT professions and industrial/technical apprenticeships to vocational training in the commercial sector in administration.

TU Darmstadt is an institution of higher education and academic research where people research, teach and study. There are currently more than 24,000 students enrolled in 13 departments and 4 fields of study.

More than 4900 people work at our university: Professors, research associates (WiMi), and administrative and technical staff (ATM). Currently, we have around 108 vocational trainees (Azubis) who are completing their vocational training at TU Darmstadt.

The central welcome event for new vocational trainees (Azubis), which was organised and hosted by Directorate VII B – Public Employees, Vocational Trainees, Student/Research Assistants, took place on 20.08.2024.

Vice President for Administration and Financial Affairs Lommel welcomed 31 new vocational trainees and students enrolled in a dual study programme on this day. They are now embarking on a new phase of their lives in 13 different vocational training programmes and dual study programmes. These include training as administrative assistants, gardeners, materials testers, Bachelor of Arts in Public Economics and many more.

TU Darmstadt can look back on a long tradition of vocational training. We focus on quality when it comes to vocational training. We recognise the importance of identifying and developing the skills and competencies that our vocational trainees need to start their professional lives. Our training takes place in small groups and is therefore very personalised. In many areas, it is even possible to collaborate with academic researchers. This way, insights into academic research and new developments can be gained first hand during the vocational training programme.

An interesting and varied vocational training is a good foundation for your future professional career. There is always something new to discover at a university. Vocational training is a good opportunity to develop professional routines and yet always think outside the box. For this reason, our vocational training programmes include both the acquisition of up-to-date specialist knowledge and the training of solution-orientated thinking and action. This creates an excellent foundation for entering the world of work.
