Dissolution and motion dynamics of metallic microparticles in ionic shear flows

The aim of the project is to understand the complex interplay of mass transport, morphology and flow processes in ionic liquids for the dissolution process of iron oxides as well as for reductive deposition and to describe main driving forces and limitations semi-quantitatively.

Scientific challenges:

  • Influence of hydrodynamics on iron oxide solubility (shear, viscosity, mass concentration, particle dynamics)
  • Investigate the interplay of mass transfer, morphology and flow processes on the reduction of iron oxide particles
  • Description of main driving forces, limitations and scaling behaviours
  • Establish a continuous flow process for electrochemical iron oxide reduction
