The 1st Mini-Symposium

How iron combustion and its modelling contribute to the energy transition

2021/12/10 by

The first mini-symposium on 29 November 2021 has convinced with stimulating lectures, presentations and joint discussions. In total, more than 130 participants have joined via Zoom.

Prof. Jeroen van Oijen (TU Eindhoven) and Prof. Jeff Bergthorson (McGill University), gave particularly informative guest lectures.

Prof. Jeoren van Oijen researches the development and modelling of machines and the associated engines and energy converters in his Power & Flow group. He is a specialist in theoretical and numerical combustion modelling.

Prof. Jeff Bergthorson generally researches combustion and energy systems. With his expertise in the physics of iron combustion, his talk provided an interesting stimulus for discussion.

Furthermore, two PIs from Clean Circles presented on their current results. The contributions of Dr.-Ing Benjamin Böhm from the Institute of Reactive Flows and Diagnostics (RSM) and Dr.-Ing Arne Scholtissek from the Institute for Simulation of reactive Thermo-Fluid Systems (STFS) provided important impulses for the subsequent scientific discussion.

The Clean Circles cluster project forms the elementary foundation for a common direction with regard to the energy transition and available resources, and to make a contribution to our planet and its future through mutual exchange.
