2023/05/24

From 7 to 12 May 2023, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence “EU@School” of TU Darmstadt and Ben Gurion University of the Negev conducted a study trip with students from both universities. The programme also included a workshop on current EU challenges in energy and climate policy, as well as on the role of the EU-Israel relations.

In the joint workshop entitled “European Governance in Disruptive Times”, the students discussed current challenges facing the European Union in the areas of energy and climate policy as well as the role of EU-Israel relations. Prof. Michèle Knodt, Nils Bruch and Lucas Flath supported the workshop with presentations. The group was accompanied by Prof. Sharon Pardo, Dr. Hila Zahavi and Aharon Leshno Yaar, former Israeli ambassador to the EU.

Other stops of the trip were the European Space Operations Centre of the ESA in Darmstadt, the University of Public Administration in Kehl, the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

During the study trip, participants had the opportunity to deepen their academic knowledge through direct interaction with representatives of European institutions and to experience the European Union first-hand. In addition, this trip enabled the students to establish valuable contacts that are of great importance for their personal development as well as for the academic exchange between the EU and Israel.

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence “EU Expertise at School” aims to increase students' understanding of the EU. The researchers develop teaching materials and event formats for this purpose. Furthermore, they contribute their research results to the academic discourse in order to improve knowledge about the EU.
