Storing power in iron

TV report from the program “alles wissen” about Clean Circles

2023/12/01

The editorial team and a camera crew from the program “alles wissen” visited the Clean Circles project in November 2023 to find out more about why energy storage is the key to the energy transition and what special role iron plays in this.

The video is in German with English subtitles (please click on the button “CC”).

The approximately 8-minute TV report gives an insight into our experimental and numerical research methods as well as the research infrastructure used and allows participating scientists to have their say.

The scientific core of Clean Circles is an innovative energy-material cycle as a central component of the energy transition. Electrical energy from renewable sources is chemically stored in iron with a high energy density, making it storable and transportable.

Scientists from Technical University of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Mainz University, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Heidelberg University, the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research and the DLR Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes in Cottbus are involved in Clean Circles.

The video was broadcast on 30 November 2023 and is also available in the ARD media library:
