Questionnaire to the Research Fellow
My field of research is fascinating. To laymen I would explain it in the following comprehensible manner:
Interesting phenomena occur when a solid meets liquid or when a liquid meets gas. We use computers to study the regions where such “meeting” happens. It is impractical to experimentally observe how molecules move in real time, at least with the existing technology. Therefore, computers are used to predict their motions.
My most important success in research to date is:
I consider myself fortunate to have access to, and be able to contribute to human knowledge. In that sense, I am fascinated by every bit of knowledge-including the data, figures or numbers-that I and my colleagues have generated till this day.
I’ve chosen the TU Darmstadt because…
matching research interests with Prof. Dr. Nico van der Vegt’s research group.
If I were a student today, I would I would take courses related to the Philosophy of Science, Symbolic logic and music theory.
The perfect balance to a stressful working day is is reading interesting articles (philosophy, art or science) while listening to interesting music.
With the help of my host in Darmstadt I would like to study the scientific topic for which the fellowship was granted. In technical language, we want to study how capillary waves affect interfacial solvation processes and how ion-pairing affects solid-liquid interfacial properties.
