Prof. Dr. Bibhas Chandra Giri

Area of research: supply chain management, warehouse management, production planning and -management as well as sustainability management

Name of my University / Research Institute: Department of Mathematics at Jadavpur University in Kolkata/India

Research period at the TU Darmstadt:

April to June 2016

Prof. Dr. Bibhas Chandra Giri.

Professor Dr. Bibhas Chandra Giri, who is a faculty member of Jadavpur University in Kolkata/India, visits Darmstadt until June 2016 and works together with Professor Dr. Christoph Glock and his research group at the Institute of Production and Supply Chain Management. His research stay is supported by the Alexander von Humboldt foundation.

During his research stay at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, he will investigate improvement options for sustainability of so-called closed-loop supply chains. These are special supply systems that return used and no longer required products to the producer for possible reprocessing or recycling. Reprocessed and reused products are then reintroduced into the resource cycle.

Moreover, Professor Giri will investigate how reusable packaging material could contribute to decreasing emissions and reducing waste production, and thus to improve the sustainability of closed-loop supply chains. The aim of his research stay is to develop mathematical models that support the management of closed-loop supply chains in practice and that help to achieve the descripted objectives.
