We are at your side even before you start your study programme and support you in finding your own personal direction: We offer you guidance in choosing the right course of study and help you to match your interests and strengths with the engineering opportunities at TU Darmstadt. We will guide you through your first steps in planning your studies – from planning your timetable to finding your way through everyday study life – and give you valuable insights into the requirements of your future degree programme.

When you start your studies, navigatING. will stay by your side and support you as you settle into your new everyday life. During the initial phase of your studies, we offer you a variety of opportunities to make contacts and exchange ideas with fellow students from your subject area. In practice-oriented workshops, you will develop key skills such as exam management, stress management and project management.

If things get a little bumpy, our mentors are there to support you and help you overcome challenges together. navigatING. is your compass on your study journey – so that you can navigate confidently at every stage and successfully complete your degree programme.

Who is navigating for and application process

The programme is aimed at all prospective students and students in the first two semesters of the following faculties:

Application Process

1. After receiving your application, we will schedule an introductory meeting.

2. Following our conversation, you will receive a confirmation and can enroll in the navigatING orientation program at TU Darmstadt.

If the maximum number is reached, you will be placed on a waiting list and informed when a spot becomes available.

The program consists of five modules:

The program consists of five modules:

1. Career Orientation Module: Gain professional insights through lectures, internships, excursions, and job shadowing. Establish initial professional contacts.

2. Study Orientation Module: Learn about the engineering disciplines offered at TU Darmstadt. Build a solid foundation in mathematics with modules suitable for all engineering programs and earn initial academic credits.

3. Individual Counselling Module: Develop your individual strengths profile and compare it with study options. Receive tailored support through group and tandem meetings with student mentors and participate in two decision-making workshops at the end of each semester.

4. Key Competence Acquisition Module: Acquire essential skills for your academic and professional future, such as self-organization, learning strategies, project management, and presentation skills. Engage in self-learning units and group meetings closely supervised by student mentors.

5. The Mentoring Module is a building block around the topic of social integration. Here you will find answers to all questions about student life that are suitable for everyday use. You will receive regular support in small groups and as an individual from experienced student mentors and will be assigned a person you can talk to at any time.

navigatING. is a support program at TU Darmstadt aimed at prospective students who are still undecided about which degree program suits them best, as well as first- and second-semester students seeking support at the start of their studies.

navigatING. is designed for:

  • Prospective students who are still undecided about which degree program is the right fit.

First- and second-semester students in the following departments:

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (etit)

The program aims to help you find the right degree program, make it easier to transition into university life, and connect you with other students.

You can apply at any time. Participation is possible before the start of your studies or during your first two semesters.

  • Prospective students: Participation begins only in the winter semester. Shortly before lectures start, you’ll receive individual guidance on questions related to studying and your timetable.
  • First- and second-semester students: Students can participate in workshops and meetings at any time. If you're interested, just send us an email, and we’ll guide you through the next steps.

Key skills: Workshops on exam management, stress management, project management, and self-organization.

Networking and exchange: Opportunities to connect with fellow students and discuss study-related topics.

Support during your studies: Access to advisors and guidance on study-related questions.

Individual counselling and participation in selected courses enable interdisciplinary study orientation.

Mentoring: You can exchange experiences with advanced students and thus deepen your knowledge of the various degree programmes.

In practice-oriented workshops, you’ll develop essential skills that will help you during your studies and strengthen your preparation for initial professional experiences.

This depends on your individual situation and cannot be answered definitively. However, the program can make your study entry phase more manageable, as you can already attend introductory courses and take exams. After participating in navigatING., you’ll know what to expect in your studies. Additionally, acquiring key skills will better prepare you for your studies.

We want to get to know you and understand your expectations of navigatING. This allows us to tailor the program to your individual needs and wishes. The meeting is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

  • Once you receive our confirmation, your registration is binding. If you cannot participate due to important reasons, please notify us in writing as soon as possible. This allows applicants on the waiting list to have a chance to join the program.
  • Please note that applying for the orientation program does not replace the application for a Bachelor’s degree program at TU Darmstadt. If you wish to participate in navigatING., you must also apply for one of the participating degree programs through the central application portal within the application period.

You are officially enrolled as a student at TU Darmstadt. This means you are eligible for BAföG. However, please note that BAföG eligibility is tied to the standard period of study (6 semesters). Participation in the orientation program may extend your study duration, which could affect your BAföG eligibility individually.

For prospective students:

1. Fill out the application form on the website.

2. We’ll invite you to a 30-minute introductory meeting to learn more about you, your interests, and your support needs.

3. After the meeting, you’ll receive confirmation and be enrolled in the program.

4. If all spots are filled, you’ll be placed on a waiting list and informed once a spot becomes available.

Important: Participation in navigatING. requires enrollment in one of the participating Bachelor’s degree programs (Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering – Sustainable Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and Information Technology). You must apply separately for these degree programs.
