More than 100 students and doctoral candidates attended a career online session on 8 June 2022 to learn about career opportunities for international talents in Germany. The event was part of the event series “Empower your career with Unite!”.

The Career Session was held in cooperation with Bosch Rexroth and Merck, both long-established, international employers and longstanding strategic partners of TU Darmstadt. They explained the areas in which they employ internationally oriented specialists.

However, the focus of the event was on the career entry and work experiences of two Unite! alumni with migration backgrounds in Germany: Adil Ilyas and Ellen Bruce showed what opportunities their international career paths opened up for them and at the same time gave authentic insights into the German work culture.

Adil Ilyas,
Bosch Rexroth

Work on your soft skills (language, communication, presentation, etc.) in addition to your technical skills. This will help you a lot during job search as well as during your career.

Adil Ilyas

  • Alumnus of the Politecnico Di Torino
  • Quality Engineer at Bosch Rexroth
  • Bachelor Mechanical Engineering (Italy), Master Production Engineering (Germany)
  • Origin: Pakistan

During his studies in Germany, Adil and his friends observed that international students usually focus on their studies and often neglect language acquisition and practical experience. This makes it difficult for them to access the labour market. Adil therefore recommends looking at one's own career goals in good time. In his Blog Adifiles he gives internationals tips on studying and working in Germany.

Ellen Bruce

  • Alumna of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the TU Darmstadt
  • GOglobal Trainee, Project Management Electronics at Merck
  • Master Chemical Engineering (Sweden), PhD Computational Physical Chemistry (Germany)
  • Origin: Sweden

Between her Bachelor's and Master's studies, Ellen Bruce travelled for half a year through India, Singapore, China and Australia. For a long time, she did not realise that she was laying an important foundation for her international career, which took her to the USA and Germany, among other places. Today, she attaches great importance to working in a company that offers her an international environment and the opportunity to spend time abroad.
