Freudenberg Award – Digital Science
The global technology company Freudenberg honors two Bachelor's theses and one Master's thesis by students and graduates of the Technical University of Darmstadt with the Freudenberg Award – Digital Science, every year. We are looking for outstanding theses on digitalization at the interface between fundamentals and applications .
The Freudenberg Award – Digital Science was initiated in 2024 on occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Freudenberg Group, Weinheim.
Professors from all departments at TU Darmstadt are invited to submit proposals for candidates. The prize money for the two Bachelor's theses is 5,000 euros each, the prize money for the Master's thesis is 10,000 euros.
The award committee consists of members from the four departments of History and Social Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer Science as well as the Freudenberg Group.
The prize will be awarded for the first time in 2024 and is independent of the Freudenberg Group's research interests. Proposals from candidates regardless of age, gender, origin and ancestry, disability or other legally protected reasons are expressly welcomed.
The prize will be awarded at the Mechanical Engineering Graduation Ceremony on December 13th, 2024 – regardless of the respective departments of the award winners.

If you, as a supervising professor, would like to propose suitable candidates, please submit the following documents in digital form ( Freudenberg-Award@tu-…):
- Reasoned letter of recommendation for the Freudenberg Award – Digital Science
- Bachelor's or Master's thesis of the candidate in digital form, which was completed after May 31st, 2023
- Curriculum vitae of the candidate
- the certificates (or comparable evidence such as the current transcript of records) of the candidate including the certificate of general higher education entrance qualification (or comparable higher education entrance qualification)
- Declaration of consent to the transmission of personal data signed by the candidate.
The award committee consists of the deans of the four participating departments or a designated professor from the department as well as a member of the Freudenberg Group. The candidates of the three best Bachelor's theses and the two best Master's theses will be invited to a short presentation of their work in November 2024. The committee's decision will be made without recourse to the courts. No reasons for the decision need to be given.
