UNITE! network's first dialogue event at Aalto

The European university alliance explores new avenues for mobility

2020/02/18

On 12-14 February, some 150 individuals representing faculty, staff, students and top management of seven European universities gathered at Aalto University for the first ever UNITE! Dialogue event.

Over 150 members of the partner universities participated in the three-day event.

The alliance of these universities was recently selected by the EU as a pilot project and it aims to create a European inter-university campus for students, faculty, staff, regional and European partners and society.

At this Dialogue event, participants planned the core actions that this new network will undertake, and they heard ideas of nine task force groups whose themes range from quality management and development of joint student services to flexible paths of mobility for students and faculty. On the agenda were for example processes by which joint initiatives in education development can support teachers in their daily work in all partner universities. Virtual and online learning experts met to share their views and vision of socially inclusive virtual learning and teaching environments across Europe.

The UNITE! (University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering) alliance was selected last summer as one of the 17 European pilots to be funded by the European Commission for 2019–2022.

The kick-off was held at the coordinating university, TU Darmstadt in Germany last November, where the UNITE! Charter was signed by presidents of the 7 partners. Other partners in the network are KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), the Grenoble Institute of Technology (France), the Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona Tech (Spain) and the University of Lisbon (Portugal).

With this alliance, the seven partner universities want to create a trans-European campus for students and scientists, involving regions and companies.
