Leading scientists of the cluster project ‘The Adaptive Mind’ (TAM) have presented their research in a new video. TAM is in the running for a Cluster of Excellence in the prestigious Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

All the AI systems that we know, they are not in any way as adaptive as humans are, ’ explains Darmstadt site spokesperson Professor Constantin Rothkopf in the video published on Platform X. Humans are able to learn new things and implement them immediately, he stresses. TAM aims to gain a better computer-based understanding of human adaptability and thus also better understand ‘how machines could do this’.
The TAM project has submitted a full application for the Cluster of Excellence funding line as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments. This is a joint application by TU Darmstadt, Justus Liebig University Giessen and Philipps University Marburg.
TU Darmstadt is represented in the final round of the competition with a total of three project outlines . In addition to TAM, these are ‘Reasonable Artificial Intelligence’ (RAI) on artificial intelligence and ‘CoM2Life’ on communicating biomaterials. The applications are currently being assessed. The funding decision on the future Clusters of Excellence will be made in May 2025.
