Researchers from the cluster project “The Adaptive Mind” (TAM) with the participation of TU Darmstadt have met for a two-day symposium. At the event in early June at Rauischholzhausen Castle in central Hesse, they discussed the topics of cognition, scene perception, maladaptation and sensory learning. TAM is competing for a Cluster of Excellence in the prestigious Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

Renowned international scientists participated in the lecture program, including Stefania Bracci (University of Trento), Dora Angelaki (New York University), Rhodri Cusack (Trinity College Dublin) and Hendrikje Nienborg (National Eye Institute, USA).

The following TAM researchers from TU Darmstadt took part in the meeting: Professor Jan Peters and Professor Stefan Roth (both from the Department of Computer Science) as well as Professor Thomas Wallis, Dr. Julia Frankenstein, Fabian Tatai and Lina Eicke-Kanani from the Department of Human Sciences.

The TAM project on the adaptability of the human mind is submitting a full application for the Cluster of Excellence funding line as part of the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments. TU Darmstadt, Justus Liebig University Giessen and Philipps University Marburg are involved.

TU Darmstadt is represented in the Excellence Strategy competition with a total of three project outlines. In addition to TAM from the field of cognitive sciences, these are “Reasonable Artificial Intelligence” (RAI) on artificial intelligence and “CoM2Life” on communicating biomaterials.
