Communications Engineering and Data Science and Design Thinking and Product Development

2023/04/07

The Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programs at Bachelor's and Master's level provide students with in-depth knowledge of the focus areas “Communications Engineering and Data Science” and “Design Thinking and Product Development”, combining online learning at the home university with a study visit on campus at Aalto University. The application deadline is 15 May 2023.

Communications Engineering and Data Science

This summer, the Unite! Communications engineering and Data Science master's programme is collaborating with Aalto summer school to offer this advanced course, which will cover a range of timely, industry-relevant topics related mathematics, modelling and analysis of signals and systems, electronics, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, networks and network security, distributed systems, and the Internet of Things. Students will further acquire expertise in professional skills trainings.

The course is for 3rd year bachelor's and master's degree students from technical fields such as computer science, electrical, or computer engineering, who are enrolled in one of the 9 Unite! partner universities.

More information can be found on the Unite! website.

Design Thinking and Product Development

Design Thinking and Product Development is a hands-on bachelor's level course where students learn about innovation and how it is used to solve real-life problems. This course will teach you how modern technology is used in user-centered prototyping processes. In multidisciplinary teams, the students are expected to create solutions while learning about electronics, laser-cutting, and additive manufacturing. The course includes theory and practice of design thinking and its application in different contexts.

The course is for 2nd and 3rd year bachelor's students from the 9 Unite! partner universities and is aimed mainly at design and engineering students, but other disciplines may be accepted if there is space in the course.

About Unite!

Alongside TU Darmstadt as the coordinator, Unite! (University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering) also includes Aalto University (Finland), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Grenoble Institute of Technology (France), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain) and Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal).

The seven partner universities aim to use the European University to create a trans-European campus for students and researchers with the involvement of regions and companies. The partners have a total of 167,000 students, already cooperate closely in more than 80 EU projects and have exchanged more than 2,000 students in the past five years. The alliance has set itself the goal of combining courses for the benefit of students, breaking down existing technical and administrative hurdles, and thus significantly increasing student mobility. Research will also benefit from the conditions created for larger and easier cooperation, which will strengthen the competitiveness of the European Higher Education Area overall.
