First Unite! Online Language Café starts January 15

14.01.2025

If you want to learn a new language, you also have to speak it. Language learning theories argue that language learning takes place unconsciously and by chance through exchanges with native speakers or through contact with authentic language use outside the classroom. The Unite! Online Language Café (UOLC) aims to do just that and invites students from all Unite! universities for the first time on 15 January 2025.

Unite!’s multilingual and multicultural environment provides an excellent setting for informal language learning. The UOLC is an extracurricular peer-to-peer activity to use, practice and deepen language knowledge in a safe environment. Students from diverse academic backgrounds gather to speak one of the Unite! languages (all nine local Unite! languages Catalan, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Spanish and additionally English are being offered), each participant decides which language group to join and in which language they want to communicate and exchange ideas and intercultural experiences. Student tutors will explain the idea of the Language Café, introduce topics, encourage communication and clear misunderstandings. The room will be regularly open for two hours every second Wednesday 16:30-18:30 CET.
