University Assembly, Senate and University Council are the supporting pillars of academic autonomy at TU Darmstadt. These administrative bodies shape the development of TU Darmstadt and conduct important debates on higher education policy. In addition, TU Darmstadt has established advisory boards and commissions which perform advisory tasks within the university.

The University Council has the right of initiative on fundamental matters, in particular on questions of university development, and exercises control functions.
