The Prize of the Adolf Messer Foundation is awarded annually for the promotion of research and teaching to early career researchers with outstanding achievements in the fields of natural sciences, engineering sciences and economic sciences, social sciences and the humanities. It is endowed with €50,000.
The prize money is dedicated for personnel and material costs of research projects at TU Darmstadt. The funds can be used to open up research opportunities for early career researchers after the completion of their doctoral degree. Laureates should generally not be older than 40 years.
The award can also be used to grant a visiting professorship or to fund short stays of highly qualified scientists with a permanent residency outside of Germany.
Nominations can be made by professors of TU Darmstadt. Self-nominations are ruled out. Nominations can be repeated. Assistant professors can apply autonomously, their applications should be addressed to the President of TU Darmstadt.
The decision regarding the laureate is made by an awards committee which includes representatives of the Adolf Messer Foundation, the President of TU Darmstadt as well as three professors of TU Darmstadt.
The prize is awarded by a representative of the Adolf Messer Foundation during a presentation ceremony.
