Securing external funding has become a crucial component of a successful academic career. In today’s highly competitive research environment, the ability to write strong funding proposals is an essential skill for scientists.

This workshop is designed to support early career researchers who are currently preparing a research proposal (e.g., for the DFG) or are planning to do so soon. It offers guidance on common challenges in proposal writing and provides valuable opportunities to connect with peers facing similar questions.

The workshop will start with a general introduction to proposal writing, including key elements and formal requirements. Following this, Prof. Dr. Jens Braun (Department of Physics & DFG liaison officer at TU Darmstadt) will share insights and practical advice, highlighting common do’s and don’ts based on his experience with third-party funding applications and as a reviewer.

In the hands-on part of the workshop, participants will work in small groups using sample templates for third-party proposals. You are invited to bring your own draft proposal to receive constructive feedback from the group.
