LOST IN TRANSITION – from Fugitive, Ephemeral

September 24 to December 10, 2017

With a thematic exhibition on the topic of volatility and a total of 24 national and international artists, the Kunstforum dere TU Darmstadt and the Atelierhaus Darmstadt continue their successful collaboration.

Since time immemorial, the capture of fleeting moments and feelings has been one of the great concerns of visual art. In our time, however, the topic is of particular importance: Due to the increasing acceleration of modern life, the fugitive gains in explosiveness and topicality. There seems to be no endurance, the steady flow of time has become a torrent in many places, and lingering is an art. Contemporary sociologists and philosophers speak of breathlessness and “fluid times”.

In the face of a variety of diversions and possibilities, they are currently seeing growing difficulties in finding the right middle and bottom.

Film on the exhibition by Clara Trischler (Duration: 03:15)

Especially in the Rhine-Main area, some people live in an initially foreign environment or culture. Self-imposed or forced new beginnings, shorter or longer stays, private or professional reasons, flight and labor migration, changes and new opportunities, visions of the future in the context of new technologies: these are just a few reasons for constant change in our region. Many experience it as an opportunity; but most of them also see losses in too fast a change.

On the one hand, the exhibition LOST IN TRANSITION focuses on the variable, ephemeral as natural processes, and on the other, the aspect of uncertainty and loss is discussed. The artistic works reflect in many ways the current topic of fast-moving life.
