As a new student at TU Darmstadt, the MasterPlus programme provided invaluable support during my transition to life in a new city. Aman and Johannes were always approachable and ready to answer my questions about student life and living in Darmstadt, offering insightful advice that made settling in much easier. The programme also organized engaging activities that not only allowed me to explore the city but also helped me connect with fellow students in a meaningful way.

What is MasterPlus or MA+?

MasterPlus (MA+) is a buddy programme (free of charge), organized by the International Student Services (ISS) for international master’s students in departments 11 (Materials- and Geoscience), 13 (Civil and Environmental Engineering), 16 (Mechanical Engineering), and 20 (Computer Science). A buddy is a friendly, experienced student who knows the ins and outs of the university and the city. Their role is to support you as you adjust to life in Darmstadt, answer your questions, and help you feel at home.

Why join the programme?

As buddies, we assist you in settling into your new hometown, Darmstadt. We are here to address your concerns and, if needed, direct you to the right resources. Beyond providing guidance on visas, housing, and study planning, the programme fosters connections with other incoming students. We believe that building strong social ties is essential for a successful start to your master’s programme.

The programme offers both on-site and digital meet-ups where you can ask questions, share experiences, and enjoy social events to get to know your peers.

How to apply?

If you’re an incoming student from departments 11, 13, 16, or 20, keep an eye on your inbox! An email will contain details on how to join. Participation is free of charge and optional, but highly recommended for a smoother transition.

Not everyone can dare to study abroad. The transition from school to university is confusing for everyone. Depending on your level of German and the school system you come from, it can be even more difficult for foreign students in Germany. You also have to get used to the differences in culture, weather, food etc.! TU Darmstadt offers the PreCIS programme to international first-semester Bachelor students to help them get off to a successful start.

In a virtual 360° environment, prospective students playfully experience what it is like to study at TU Darmstadt. Anyone who makes it out of here has not only gained an insight into the content of their studies, but also got to know the university as a place to study and spend their free time. The first game to be published is “Mission Metal Memory” from Materials Science.
