Carbon nanomaterials for nanoscience and energy research
Carbon nanotubes and graphene for catalysis, sensing, battery applications and gas storage
This offered IREP project is suited for students interested in materials chemistry. The sucessful IREP student will synthesize vertically aligned carbon nanotubes and graphene via gas phase routes. He will also learn how to functionalize these nanomaterials by gas phase routes. After having prepared and furthermore functionlaized the nanomaterials he will learn how such materials are characterized by sophisticated spectroscopic and microscopic studies on the nanoscale. All studies will be done in close collaboration with an experienced second/third year PhD student. Depending on the material application studies towards battery materials, gas storage and separation materials as well as gas sensoric studies will also be undertaken. With his work the IREP student will support our research activities in the field of nanomaterials.
