Synthesis of high entropy carbides

The student will synthesize ternary carbides with multiple elements on one lattice site. This includes working with powders and sol-gel precursors and reacting them at high temperatures. To complement the syntheses, the student will learn about diffraction techniques to study the composition and structure of the ceramic compounds. The materials are hypothesized to show improved high-temperature and oxidation behavior which will be tested and evaluated.
