Allyship means consciously and actively standing by the side of people who have been affected by discrimination. Not out of an impulse to help, but out of responsibility, solidarity and the will to change. It is about questioning one's own position, about listening instead of talking about others, and about shaping discrimination-sensitive university spaces together.
This is exactly where the Diversity Day starts. It makes diversity visible, opens up space for a change of perspective and supports an open, critical dialog. The aim is to question structural inequalities and further develop universities as places of equal opportunities and shared responsibility.
We will approach this aim in the first half of the program through an interactive discussion on the topic of ‘allyship’ with Abdou-Rahime Diallo and Carla de Andrade Hurst (Diaspora Policy Interaction) Dr.'in Z. Ece Kaya (TU Darmstadt, project “Better Together!”) and Dr. Michael Höttemann (TU Darmstadt, Anti-Discrimination Office).
In the second half of the program, the award-winning documentary “The Möllner Letters” will be screened with an introduction by director Martina Priessner.
The film tells the story of the “Mölln Letters”, in which hundreds of people expressed their sympathy and solidarity with the victims of the racist attack in Mölln (1992) without the addressees ever knowing about them until İbrahim Arslan, a survivor of the attack, discovered them in the city archives.
The event starts at 1.30 pm and ends at 5.30 pm. Further details on registration:
A supporting program to the Diversity Day and the expert forum will offer the opportunity to explore the topic of 'allyship' in in-depth workshops.
