Allyship means consciously and actively standing alongside people who are affected by discrimination. Not out of a desire to help, but out of responsibility, solidarity, and a will to bring about change. It is about questioning one’s own position, one’s own involvement in mechanisms of reproduction, about listening instead of speaking about others, and about jointly shaping university spaces with as little discrimination as possible.
Diversity Day 2025
Making diversity visible, creating space for a change of perspective, and fostering open, critical dialogue – all with the aim of questioning structural inequalities and further developing universities as places of equal opportunity and shared responsibility. These topics and an initial approach to this ‘goal’ were addressed in the first half of the Diversity Day 2025 programme through an interactive conversation on the topic of ‘allyship’ with Abdou-Rahime Diallo and Carla de Andrade Hurst (Diaspora Policy Interaction) as well as Dr Z. Ece Kaya (TU Darmstadt, project “Better Together!”).
In the second half of the programme, the award-winning documentary Die Möllner Briefe was screened. A film discussion with the director Martina Priessner followed the screening.
Supporting program/ Further events
A supporting program to the Diversity Day and the expert forum will offer the opportunity to explore the topic of 'allyship' in in-depth workshops. The workshops will discuss the topic from different perspectives.
