Step by step to your appointment at the City Hall Darmstadt

The International Student Services have created a guide to help you through the process of booking an appointment for the Anmeldung at the City Hall in Darmstadt.

As an incoming or newly arrived international student at TU Darmstadt you may have already heard about the Anmeldung and what you need to do. If not, we are here to remind you of this important step and provide you with some helpful tips and information!

FYI: the Anmeldung is a legal requirement for all residents in Germany who are planning to stay longer than 3 months. Ideally, you should register your address within 2 weeks of arriving in Germany. However, these days it is not always possible to do so, but you should try and book an appointment as soon as possible.

For those who have an address in Darmstadt, you need book an Anmeldung/Registration appointment via their online booking system.

Important things to remember!

  • It often looks like they have no appointments available…
  • But, they release appointments very early in the morning, so make sure you check around this time before all time slots are booked up.
  • You need to bring your “Wohnungsgeberbestätigung” to the appointment, a rental contract will not suffice.

For others who live in another city or municipality in Germany, you can find out which registration authority you need to book an appointment with by checking online. Just type in ‘Anmeldung’ and the name of your city into your search engine.

After you have completed the Anmeldung, you will be given a ‘Meldebescheinigung’ which allows you to open a bank account and serves as proof of your address.
