Glass Competence Center – GCC
The Institute of Structural Mechanics and Design (ISM+D) and the Materials Testing Institute MPA-IfW of the TU Darmstadt both have strong competencies in the field of glass construction, which are concentrated in the Glass Competence Center.
Core Competences
The team is involved in:
- research projects,
- applied industrial research,
- approval and licensing procedures,
- production controls and
- teaching events
with the material glass and its applications in construction and architecture as well as in the automotive and consumer goods industries.
In the process, theory, experiment and simulation are synergetically linked.

The Glass Competence Center unites 11 innovative research areas dealing with glass in the built environment.
