Hello Freshers!

Fresher's Welcome at TU Darmstadt

In October, it was that time of year again: TU Darmstadt welcomed its new students for the winter semester. While the first-year students discovered campus life at numerous stands run by university groups, departments, sports clubs and support initiatives, our ambassadors Sara and Aditya were also on site and conducted several interviews with new students. The atmosphere was fantastic – full of curiosity, excitement and anticipation for what awaited the students at TU Darmstadt.

Why TU Darmstadt?

There are many reasons why students choose TU Darmstadt. On this day, Karo 5 was filled with expectations, new friendships and fresh energy.

Many students commute to Darmstadt every day. That may sound exhausting at first, but after a while it becomes routine – and the train ride is simply part of everyday life.

I chose TU Darmstadt because it's close to Frankfurt – that's where I'm from – and because I heard it's very prestigious.

Diversity of degree programmes

TU Darmstadt offers a wide range of bachelor's and master's degree programmes that you won't find everywhere.

I wanted to study biotechnology and biomolecular engineering, and Darmstadt is one of the few universities that offers this degree programme. It's also a very good technical university.

Excellence and practical relevance

Many degree programmes offer practical elements right from the first semester – whether in the university's own laboratories or in cooperation with external companies. This allows students to learn early on how theory and the world of work can be combined.

TU Darmstadt is one of the best universities in Germany.

Student city Darmstadt

Darmstadt has around 170,000 inhabitants – around 40,000 of whom are students. You notice this immediately: you meet other students all over the city, and it's easy to get to know new people.

I think it's cool that Darmstadt is a student city – you can ride your bike everywhere! I also did my bachelor's degree here and really wanted to stay.
