2024/11/07
This year's German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) prize for outstanding achievements by international students at TU Darmstadt goes to Anna Klyushina, at the time of nomination a student on the Master's degree programme in Mechatronics with a specialisation in Robotics. The award, endowed with 1,000 euros, was presented at a ceremony at which the recipients of international scholarships from TU Darmstadt were also honoured.
Anna Klyushina, who completed her Master's degree in May 2024 and is now a doctoral student and research assistant at the Department of Control Methods and Intelligent Systems in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, impressed the jury not only with her academic excellence, but also with her commitment in the university environment. ‘A role model for many’
As an elected student representative and member of the student council, she actively campaigned for the improvement of study conditions and contributed to the further development of the Master's degree programme in Mechatronics, among other things. She was also involved as a tutor during the induction weeks for new students and made it easier for them to start their studies at TU Darmstadt. Her commitment extended beyond the university: she supported students and promoted intercultural exchange as the student resident speaker and through her work at the International Office. She was also active at national level at national student council conferences and took part in Girls' Day as a tutor in a soldering course to get girls interested in technology.
‘With her work and commitment, Anna Klyushina is a role model for many and impressively demonstrates how international students are an enrichment for the university landscape in Germany, not only academically but also socially,’ said the jury in its statement.

Scholarships were also awarded to international students at the award ceremony in karo 5.
‘TU Darmstadt is proud to be one of the universities with the highest proportion of international students in Germany,’ said Heribert Warzecha, TU Vice President, Academic Affairs and Diversity. ‘Especially for our international students, the challenges of successfully completing a degree programme are high. These include, for example, the administrative hurdles involved in starting a degree programme or finding affordable accommodation. International students leave their familiar social environment to study with us, usually have to learn new languages, familiarise themselves with a new university system and financing their studies is also challenging, as they are not entitled to Bafög, for example. I am therefore delighted that we can financially support at least a small number of international students with the scholarships.’
