Günter Behnisch
(*1922, †2010)

Günter Behnisch was a professor for Architectural/Building Design and Industrial Building Technology at Technische Hochschule Darmstadt from 1967 until 1987. One of the nation's most notable architects, he left his imprint on building culture and helped Western Germany present itself to the world in laid-back style.

His major achievements include the 1972 Munich Olympic Park, the German Bundestag's 1992 plenary floor in Bonn and the new construction of the Akademie der Künste (Academy of the Arts) at Pariser Platz, Berlin, in 2005.

Behnisch succeeded time and again in translating the values of democracy and freedom into stunning buildings free of pathos or power imagery.
