Status quo
Hybrid electric powertrains are often expensive, complex and especially in pure electric operation not very efficient. This is caused by requirements on installation space, comfort and functionality. In addition, there is currently often a demand for synergies with conventional powertrains.
Our technology: TDT4LR
By consequently following the system integration approach, the TDT4LR offers an intelligent possibility for a parallel coupling of a combustion engine as a range extender for multi-motor e-drive powertrains with reduced costs and space requirements, but high driving comfort.
Benefits
- High functionality with low complexity
- Highly efficient operation by eliminating powershift elements
- Cost reduction potential due to synergies with e drive powertrain variants
Current stage of development
Technology-Readiness-Level (TRL): Level 3.
The invention bases on known technologies. Therefore, a short-term implementation in a demonstrator vehicle (TRL 6-7) is possible.
Application possibilities
A powertrain system for future-oriented vehicles which are suitable for long-distance operation: Drive both efficiently locally emission-free in pure electric mode and on longer distances in hybrid mode with minimal real ecological impact.
Commercialization opportunities
For the implementation of the technology, we are looking for interested companies who would like to extend their product portfolio or open up new business fields. There are various possibilities for cooperation between the industrial partner and TU Darmstadt: from an exchange with the know-how carriers of the technology up to a close cooperation in case of further development needs. The technology is protected by intellectual property rights and can be used by the industry partner after a sale or licensing agreement.
