The Joint Bachelor of Arts consists of the studies of two different subjects/components.

The component German Studies addresses the capacity and effects of the German language and literature in German as regards its historical development, its aesthetic particularity, and its social conditions on a scientific level.

At TU Darmstadt, the studies of German within the J.B.A. is composed of the three German Studies subsections Modern German Literary Studies, German Linguistics, and German Language and Literature of the Middle Ages (Medieval Studies). In the course of their studies, students can choose either Literary Studies or Linguistics as their focus.
