Digital student ID now in the TUDa app!

The student ID will now be available digitally in addition to the paper ID in the summer semester 2025.

From winter semester 2025/26, the digital student ID card will become standard.

As a student at TU Darmstadt, you will receive a student ID card. Once you have transferred your semester fees on time, you will be enrolled or re-registered and receive your digital student ID in the TUDa app.

With your student ID card, you can identify yourself as a student of TU Darmstadt and receivediscounts (opens in new tab)obtained by the AStA.

FAQ

Download the new TUDa app and log in with your TU-ID (opens in new tab). Your student ID card will be available for you in the app from the start of the semester (01.10. for a winter semester, 01.04. for a summer semester) and for the duration of the semester in which you are enrolled.

Once you have activated your TU-ID, the card is available in the app. The new ID card becomes visible at the beginning of the semester, i.e. on 1 October for a winter semester and on 1 April for a summer semester.

The student ID can only be used via the TUDa app.

Follow the instructions in the app and please observe the following specifications:

  • Portrait photo frontal
  • Head takes up the entire picture
  • Face easily recognisable
  • White background
  • Portrait format

The data is updated on an ongoing basis.

The new ID card becomes visible at the beginning of the semester (01. October for a winter semester and on 1 April for a summer semester).

Yes, you can use the ID card offline for five days. After this time, you will be prompted to reload the id card.

Yes, the TUDa app can be set up on 5 devices.

If you are in a non-European country, the app may not be available. When you are (back) in Germany, you can download the app. Please always use the “Studienbescheinigung” (certificate of studies) as proof of your studies, which can be found in TUCaN under Service > My documents.

New students must first activate their TU-ID (opens in new tab) in order to log in.

New enrolled students: Activate your TU-ID (opens in new tab) first, if you have not already done so. The ID will only be displayed at the beginning of the semester (01.10./01.04.).

Existing students: After transferring the semester fee, your ID card will be available in the app from the start of the semester.

No, the student ID card is not valid as a semester ticket. The AStA (opens in new tab) provides information on how to obtain the Deutschlandsemesterticket.

The ticket can be displayed in the TUDa app after activation.

For examinations, you will still need to identify yourself with a valid photo ID (identity card, passport, driving licence, international student ID, dgti supplementary ID).

ATTENTION: As you are not allowed to use a digital device (smartphone, smartwatch, etc.) during the exam, please make sure you remember your matriculation number!

This code can be integrated into the TUDa app. Your one-time consent is required for this. Follow the instructions in the app.

If you do not wish to use the student ID card in the app, you must object to its use in the IDM portal. This is possible for a winter semester from 1 October to 30 November and for a summer semester from 1 April to 31 May.

You can collect your paper ID card once it has been issued.

This process must be repeated every semester.

More information will follow closer to the beginning of the semester.

Please note:

  • You can only make this setting once per semester. If you have chosen the paper ID card, you can only switch to the digital ID card in the following semester.
  • Both versions are not possible, you have to choose between the digital version and the paper ID card.

The student ID card can be reissued if lost.

The duplicate is subject to a fee of 15.00 euros.

Please note: Payment transactions at Student Services are exclusively cashless. We can only accept fees by bank transfer. The easiest way to do this is to contact us by e-mail. You will then receive our account details to transfer the fees promptly. As soon as you have transferred the amount, please contact us again with your transfer receipt so that you receive your duplicate promptly.

The student ID card can be reissued in the event of theft.

Please submit the police report to us, in this case the reissue is free of charge. If you do not submit a police report, you will have to pay a fee of 15.00 euros.
